Exodus 12:7 Meaning They Shall Take Some of the Blood

They shall take some of the blood, and put it on the two door posts and on the lintel, on the houses in which they shall eat it.

What does Exodus 12:7 mean?

The living force carried in the blood is set at the opening of awareness so the destroying power passes over. The doorway here is a threshold of consciousness, its 2 side posts and the lintel above marking the frame through which the higher light enters the house of the body.

Esoteric

The living force carried in the blood is set at the opening of awareness so the destroying power passes over. The doorway here is a threshold of consciousness, its 2 side posts and the lintel above marking the frame through which the higher light enters the house of the body. To mark them with blood is to consecrate that opening with one's own vital energy.

What is sealed this way is protected while the sustaining life is taken in within. The threshold of awareness, once anointed with the living force, lets the higher pass through untouched and keeps the inner house whole.

Blood: the living vital force in a person, the energy of life used to consecrate the opening of awareness 2 side posts and upper door post: the frame of a threshold of consciousness, the opening through which the higher light enters the house of the body House: the body itself, the dwelling that the marked doorway guards and the sustaining life fills

  1. Before you unlock your phone in the morning, stop with your thumb on the glass and take one breath. One second of you choosing, before the feed chooses for you.
  2. Pause in the doorway before you walk into the house tonight and leave the day's bad mood on the step. The people inside did not earn it, and you get to decide what comes through the door with you.
  3. In a tense meeting or a group chat going sideways, let the sharp reply sit in the box unsent for sixty seconds. Guard the gate while your blood is up, and most of it never needs to be said.

What have I been letting walk straight into my house without ever stopping it at the door?

The same truth in other traditions

Judaism · the mezuzah

The words are fixed to the doorframe because a threshold is where a life is decided. You touch it on the way in and on the way out, so that crossing over is never thoughtless.

Zen

The gate is guarded by attention alone. What you let through the gate of the eyes and the ears becomes the furniture of the house you live in.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Stand at the entrance of your own mind and question every impression before it enters. Nothing harms you until you have agreed to let it in.
