Exodus 2:10 Meaning The Child Grew

The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

What does Exodus 2:10 mean?

Moses grown is the maturing description of your own mind, drawn up out of the water, which is truth, into full awareness. The name is not a label but a way, and this way is the mind lifted from the depths and named for that drawing-out.

Moses grown is the maturing description of your own mind, drawn up out of the water, which is truth, into full awareness. The name is not a label but a way, and this way is the mind lifted from the depths and named for that drawing-out. He becomes the son of Pharaoh's daughter, the emotional desire that raised him, yet his origin is the water, spirit and truth, not the ego's house. The mind that meditates is pulled from the deep the way an infant is lifted from the river, and it carries the mark of that source.

A person's higher mind is not born of the ego though it is reared in the ego's rooms; it is drawn out of truth, and its whole nature is named for having come from there.

Moses: the description of your mind, drawn up into awareness Water: truth, the deep from which the mind is lifted Pharaoh's daughter: the emotional desire that rears the mind though it did not birth it Name: a way rather than a label, the mind's nature marked by its source

  1. Name one habit of thinking you picked up from the house you grew up in, and sit with the fact that it was taught to you, not born in you.
  2. With one family member or old friend, let yourself answer differently than the old script expects, even once, even in a small way.
  3. When something at work or home pulls you into the old reflex, the people-pleasing, the flaring up, the going quiet, pause and ask what is actually true here. The reflex came from somewhere. It is not you.

Which parts of you were only reared in that house, and which are actually yours?

Hinduism · Chandogya Upanishad

You are not what reared you, you are what you are made of. The teaching is simply: that is what you are.

Zen · original face

Students are asked for the face they had before their parents were born. Your conditioning raised you, it did not make you.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Epictetus was born a slave in another man's house and said the house could not own what he actually was. Where you were raised and what you are are two different questions.
