Exodus 2:16 · World English Bible
Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.
The 7 daughters are the 7 inner powers of the body, the ordered centers depicted as feminine receptive faculties, and their drawing of water is the raising of the living current, the spiritual essence lifted from the depths to nourish the flock of thoughts and energies that belong to the higher self. The number 7 marks them as the complete set of these centers, each a daughter of the priestly principle that mediates between the human and the divine.

ESOTERIC
The 7 daughters are the 7 inner powers of the body, the ordered centers depicted as feminine receptive faculties, and their drawing of water is the raising of the living current, the spiritual essence lifted from the depths to nourish the flock of thoughts and energies that belong to the higher self. The number 7 marks them as the complete set of these centers, each a daughter of the priestly principle that mediates between the human and the divine. Water is the vital fluid of consciousness, drawn up and poured out to sustain the inner herd.
The troughs they fill are the vessels of the body prepared to hold that current, and the flock is the gathered life of the soul brought to drink. The receptive powers within a person raise the living waters and fill the body's vessels, so the whole inner life is fed at the source.
7 daughters: the 7 receptive centers of the body, the complete set of inner powers Water: the vital fluid of consciousness, the life-substance drawn up to feed the inner life Troughs: the vessels of the body prepared to hold the living current once it is raised Flock: the gathered thoughts and energies of the soul brought to drink at the source

The highest good is like water, which feeds everything without competing. It settles into the low places people avoid, and that is exactly where its power comes from.
The body is spoken of as the city of Brahman, with the small space in the heart at its center. What is found at that center sustains everything the gates open onto.
Dogen told the monastery cook to handle rice and water with the same care given to the altar. Filling the ordinary vessel is not a step toward practice, it is practice.
