Exodus 20:15 Meaning You Shall Not Steal

You shall not steal.

What does Exodus 20:15 mean?

To steal is to reach outside one's own bounds and pull life from another's center rather than draw on the source already within. It is living off borrowed identity, taking the name and force that belong to someone else instead of standing in one's own.

Esoteric

To steal is to reach outside one's own bounds and pull life from another's center rather than draw on the source already within. It is living off borrowed identity, taking the name and force that belong to someone else instead of standing in one's own. The command turns a person back onto their own ground: draw your energy from the well you carry, not by siphoning it from others. The deeper theft is of the self, letting the world's demands drain the inner current away, and the charge is simply to keep one's own life within its own borders and feed it from within.

Live Exodus 20:15 today

  1. Watch for the moment you borrow somebody else's life today, in someone's feed, in a colleague's title, in a friend's house. Let yourself want things, but come back to your own ground before you measure your worth against it.
  2. Give credit out loud where it belongs, in the meeting or the group thread, even when staying quiet would let some of it drift to you. Small, and it changes how you stand in the room.
  3. When the day is draining you, say no to one thing you do not have to carry. Letting everyone take from you is its own kind of theft, and you are the one allowing it.

What are you taking from somewhere else that you could be growing where you stand?

Tao Te Ching 33

Mastering another is one kind of force, mastering yourself is a different kind of strength. One borrows power, the other owns it.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Some things are yours and some are not. Reaching for what is not yours is how you hand away the freedom you did have.

Hinduism · Bhagavad Gita 3

Do the work that is actually yours. Taking up someone else's role, or their credit, leaves you standing nowhere at all.
