Exodus 20:2 · World English Bible

Exodus 20:2 Meaning I Am Yahweh Your God

I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

What does Exodus 20:2 mean?

Egypt is a place, but it is also a state of consciousness. The house of bondage is the mind that has forgotten its source, enslaved to fear and compulsive thought, mistaking the prison for the whole of reality.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Egypt is a place, but it is also a state of consciousness. The house of bondage is the mind that has forgotten its source, enslaved to fear and compulsive thought, mistaking the prison for the whole of reality. And the same presence that names itself I am is what draws you out of it.

You are not freed by trying harder to think your way out. Thought built the prison. You are brought out when awareness awakens beneath the thinking and recognizes itself as the ground you stand on. That recognition is the leaving of Egypt. When you know yourself as the presence behind the mind, the bondage loses its power, because you are no longer the one who was enslaved.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The one power that speaks here is your own awareness of being, the plain sense of I AM that you feel before you name yourself anything else. That is what Scripture calls the Lord your God. It is not a being above the sky. It is imagination itself, the only power that has ever freed anyone from anything.

Egypt is every state of slavery a person has already lived in and left behind, and the house of bondage is any conviction that some outside thing holds him where he is. Nothing external brought him out. His own consciousness did, the moment it assumed a different self and felt that self to be so. What a person calls I AM, joined to the feeling of the wish already answered, hardens into fact and lets him walk free. You are led out of bondage by the state you dare to occupy and hold as your own.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The deliverance announced is not an escape from a country but a rising of awareness up out of the body's lower region. Egypt is the flesh, the dark dense land of the material self, and specifically the base of the spine and the belly where the energy lies coiled and captive to appetite. The house of bondage is that lower nature holding attention prisoner among cravings and fears. The one speaking as LORD is the higher self, the I AM at the crown, declaring that it has drawn the life-force up from the depths of the body toward the head. So the exodus is the internal lifting of energy along the spine, out of the darkness of mere matter into the light of the awakened mind.

What scripture frames as a nation freed from Pharaoh is the quieter event of a person's own consciousness climbing free of the gut and the groin, no longer ruled by the hungers that once held it down.

Live Exodus 20:2 today

  1. Sit for three minutes and watch your thoughts the way you would watch traffic going by. You are the one on the sidewalk, not the cars.
  2. The next time a worried story about someone starts running in your head, say to yourself, this is a thought. Then go talk to the actual person and see how different they are from the version your mind built.
  3. Under pressure, the mind speeds up and insists it has to solve everything right now. Let that be your signal to pause, feel your feet on the floor, and answer from the quieter place behind the panic.

What have you been treating as reality that is only a thought you keep believing?

Mind comes first, and all our states are made by it. What we suffer and what we are freed into both follow from how the mind is held.

To know others is clever, to know yourself is clear sight. The real mastery is not over circumstances but over the one who keeps reacting.
