EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

The deepest truth you can realize is held in two simple words, I Am. Before your name, your story, and your roles, there is the pure awareness of being that you share with the source of all life. To truly know this is to be led out of bondage.

Egypt is a picture of every kind of imprisonment in the conditioned mind, the sense of being trapped in fear and limitation. When you awaken to the presence that lives within you as I Am, you are brought out of that inner captivity. The divine is no longer something far away, because it dwells in you as your own awareness of being here, now.

SUFISM

Sufism

The rescue from slavery was never the whole point; it cleared the room so the Guest could move in. A heart freed of one master can still stay hollow, so the work is to make the emptied space a home, swept by honest self-examination and kept warm by remembrance.

Here the giver and the gift turn out to be one. The freedom handed over was only the doorway; what waited on the far side was His own nearness. He did not lead them out to leave them, but to live among them.

Live Exodus 29:46 today

  1. Before you touch your phone in the morning, sit up and feel yourself simply being here for thirty seconds, before the day assigns you a role. That is who you still are underneath all of it.
  2. When someone introduces you or asks what you do, feel for a moment how little that answer actually covers. Then be warm about it anyway.
  3. Next time a familiar worry loops in traffic or in line at the store, name it as a thought, not a fact. The thought is in you, you are not in it.

Hinduism · Brihadaranyaka Upanishad

The oldest answer to who am I is simply: I am. Everything else, the name, the role, the story, is a coat put on over that.

Buddhism · Dhammapada

The chains that bind you are made in your own mind. See clearly how they were made and they lose their hold.

Stoicism · Epictetus

People are not disturbed by what happens, but by their opinions about it. The prison is built out of thoughts, and that is also where the door is.
