Exodus 3:14 · World English Bible
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM,” and he said, “You shall tell the children of Israel this: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”
Before you say I am this or I am that, there is simply the awareness that you are. This I Am is not a thought or an image.
From the Ego v. Being reading below.

EGO & BEING
Before you say I am this or I am that, there is simply the awareness that you are. This I Am is not a thought or an image. It is the still presence beneath all your roles, the one constant that was there in childhood and remains here now.
Every name you give yourself changes, while the sense of Being never does. That is why the deepest reality announces itself only as I Am, with nothing added. It is not a person located elsewhere. It is the aliveness looking out through your eyes at this moment, the ground on which every passing form appears.

MANIFESTATION
Pure awareness of being exists prior to any name, role, or physical limit. That unconditioned awareness, unattached to poverty, illness, or wealth, is the creator called God. When awareness claims a condition, it speaks from Moses, the eternal pattern of release within consciousness.
A person does not ask an outer deity for deliverance. Stripping away the former conception of oneself leaves only the unconditioned awareness of being. From that stillness, claiming a desired reality as an immediate fact commands every outer circumstance to conform.

ESOTERIC
I AM is the pure sense of being that underlies every thought, the bare awareness of existing that a person carries beneath all names and roles. It is called the divine name because it is the deepest identity, the ground on which the entire self stands, and it answers only with itself: being that needs no further definition. Moses, the drawn-out mind lifted from the waters of the unconscious, meets this ground at the burning point in the head and is sent back by it.
The name is not a title for a distant deity but the awareness of being alive that speaks in everyone. Beneath the personality and its story sits this simple I AM, and that steady sense of existence is the presence the whole search was reaching for.
Moses: the drawn-out mind, awareness lifted from the waters of the unconscious Children of Israel: the ordered faculties within a person, the tribes of the awakening self

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
The name refuses to be an object. I AM THAT I AM will not be pinned into a thing you can master or a formula you can wield. Being itself announces that it precedes you, that you did not author it and cannot command it. To meet that is to learn your proper place in a hierarchy you did not design, and the discovery is liberating rather than crushing.
The man who inverts this, who declares himself the ground of his own existence and the primacy over life, has taken the divine name for himself. That narcissism is what topples civilizations. The rightful leader does the opposite. He claims lineage with what came before, embodies the principles that founded the world, and passes responsibility down the hierarchy instead of hoarding it at the top. Moses goes out under a name older than himself, sent by the one who was there first.

SUFISM
At a burning bush a man asks for a name to carry back, and the answer is not a label but the ground under all things. Whatever exists borrows its being the way a stream borrows water from its spring; the spring alone can simply say that it is. The fault here is the wish to master God by pinning Him down.
The cure is to let that grasp fall open and stand empty. God is present not off in the fire but as the very existence in which the man stands and speaks.

AWARENESS
Every name the mind offers is a boundary, and here naming collapses: being refuses to become an object thought can carry away. A man who calls himself wealthy, wounded, a shepherd of sheep has added something borrowed to a plain am-ness that needed no addition. Drop the additions and what remains can only be lived.
The one sent back toward Egypt carries no doctrine, only this taste of pure existence, which is the same am-ness present in whoever reads, waiting under the noise of thought.
Ego v. Being lens
Who are you when nothing is added after the words I am?
The sages pointed past every description of the self to a bare awareness that cannot be named, only recognized. You are not the thoughts passing through; you are what they pass through.
A teacher asks the student to show their original face, the one they had before their parents were born. The question strips away every role and leaves only the fact of being awake here.
The Tao that can be spoken is not the lasting Tao. Names are useful handles, but the reality under them was never a name.
