Ezekiel 33:10 Meaning You

You, son of man, tell the house of Israel: ‘You say this, “Our transgressions and our sins are on us, and we pine away in them. How then can we live?” ’

What does Ezekiel 33:10 mean?

Grief over what was done becomes a sentence on what comes next the moment a person stops separating them. A conclusion about what is still possible was never checked against anything, and it runs everything downstream: hopelessness sets the state, a hopeless state produces no turning, and no turning produces exactly the wasting away that proves the hopelessness right.

The guilt in that self-report is accurate. The forecast bolted onto it is invented.

Yahweh answers the despair rather than the transgressions, because the transgressions were never what shut the door. A door held closed from the inside is indistinguishable from a locked one until somebody pushes on it. A person who keeps that verdict spends the years they still have paying a penalty nobody imposed.

Live Ezekiel 33:10 today

  1. Write the sentence you believe about your future in plain words, then underline only the part that is actually a fact. What is left underlined is usually much smaller than the whole thing.
  2. Tell someone you trust the version of your situation you have been carrying, and ask them one question: where does this stop being true? Let them push on the door for you.
  3. When the hopeless feeling arrives mid-commute or mid-afternoon, do one thing it says is pointless, send the email, make the call, open the file. One small push tests the door better than an hour of thinking about it.

What penalty am I serving that nobody actually handed down?

Stoicism · Epictetus

It is not the event that ruins us but the judgment we attach to it. The loss is real; the sentence we pass on our future is something we added.

Zen

Fall down seven times, get up eight. The falling was never the question.

Sufism · Rumi

Do not say the door is closed because you have been knocking in the dark. The lock you are describing may be your own hand.
