BUDDHISM
Sīlabbataparāmāsa: Grasping at rites and rituals Idolatry and sorcery run on one engine: perform the rite correctly and the power owes you a result. The Galatians were already being pressed to take on a required mark to secure their standing, so the charm and the obligation are the same hand reaching for the same lever. Clearing out greed and hatred is done by hand, in how a person meets the next hour.
Dosa: Hatred Hatred is one of the three roots that every harmful act grows from. Sitting here at the head of the quarrels, it is the soil, and strife, rivalries and divisions are what comes up out of it. Someone who hates a rival cannot see him accurately; the mind reports back only what justifies the dislike, the way a rumor gets truer with each retelling.
Kodha: Flaring anger Anger arrives fast and burns out fast, which is why the outbursts come in the plural. Each one feels like a single event that will be over when it is over, yet each wears a groove the next one runs in more easily, like a path worn across a lawn. By the tenth flare a household has learned to brace, and the bracing itself becomes the atmosphere.
Issā: Envy Envy is the sting felt at someone else's good fortune. Set among the quarrels, it explains them: fights start where two people measure the same prize and one of them comes up short. Watch a family divide over an inheritance and the sequence is visible, envy first, sides afterward.
Māna: Conceit Conceit is the habit of measuring self against other, working the same whether the verdict is better, equal, or worse. Rivalries need no hatred to get going, only two people who cannot stop keeping score. Party spirit in a young church runs on exactly this: my teacher, my group, my version, each a way of standing taller.
Saṅghabheda: Splitting the community Breaking a community into factions ranks among the gravest things a person can do, listed alongside killing a parent. Heresies here are chosen parties, people gathering behind an opinion and raising it like a flag, and once the flag is up the side matters more than the opinion. Paul is writing to congregations already pulling into camps over the law, which is why this stands last, the fruit the whole list ripens into.

CYBERNETICS
Every item on this dark list grows from one root, a picture of the self that feels too small and unsafe. Idolatry hands your worth to some outside thing. Witchcraft tries to bend the world by trickery instead of steady work. Hatred, jealousy, and rage are the smoke that rises when a person believes there is not enough good to go around and that another's gain is his own loss.
A man who carries these has usually rehearsed threat so often that his machinery expects attack and answers before one comes. The quarrels and factions are old scars flaring, not the shape he was built to wear. When the inner picture heals and he feels secure at last, the fighting quietly loses its fuel, because there is no longer an enemy to defend against.
Buddhism lens
Whose good fortune has been quietly bothering me lately?
Envy, appetite, and the hunger for status drive a person out of the world. The quarrels you see are usually just those three wearing clothes.
Water takes the low place and contends with nothing, which is why nothing stands against it. The one who stops competing stops making enemies.
Anger does more harm to the one holding it than to the person it is aimed at. And people act badly out of ignorance, not to injure you, which takes most of the fuel out of the fire.
