Genesis 11:27 Meaning Now This Is the History

Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.

What does Genesis 11:27 mean?

Out of the slow delaying nature the higher possibilities of a person are generated, 3 sons who name 3 levels within one man. Terah, delay and wandering, is the lower self from which everything else must come; from it issues Abram the exalted aspiring spirit, Nahor whose name carries snorting and heat, the breath and passion of the middle nature, and Haran the parched early spark set on the mountain road.

The whole inner family descends from the same delaying root.

Haran in turn begets Lot, the veil, so that even from the short-lived higher spark comes the covering lower mind that will later cling to Abram, one darkness born of a dying light.

Terah: the slow delaying lower self, the wandering root from which the inner powers are generated Abram: the exalted aspiring spirit, the highest son of the nature Nahor: the snorting heat and passion, the breath of the middle nature Haran: the parched early spark of the mountain road, short-lived, that fathers the veiling mind Lot: the veil, the covering lower mind born of the dying higher spark

A lineage is being laid down that will run through everything, and the point is that it starts crooked. Terah's line is ordinary and flawed, and one branch of it produces Lot, the man who will later stumble into Sodom and worse. Yet the covenant does not require a spotless origin. It asks that someone in the line keep faith through the flaws, because descendants inherit the pattern their fathers hold to, not the mistakes made along the way.

Lot matters precisely as the unredeemed part, the material fact not yet lifted toward anything. His line, generations on, yields the king. A person carries the same mixture forward, the redeemed strain and the raw one together. Reveal the best of yourself and it becomes a force reaching past your own life. What you keep faith with outlasts what you got wrong.

Live Genesis 11:27 today

  1. Think of one trait you inherited and quietly dislike, the slowness, the temper, the way you put things off. Find the one good thing in your life that could not have happened without it.
  2. When a family member shows you the part of themselves you recognize from your own worst habits, do not correct it today. You are looking at the same root you came out of.
  3. When you are behind and someone points it out, say yes, you are behind, without the apology spiral. Delay is one of your parents, not a verdict on you.

Which of my good parts was fathered by a part of me I would rather not claim?
