Genesis 13:10 Meaning Lot Lifted Up His Eyes

Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

What does Genesis 13:10 mean?

A choice made on what fills the eye today will bill a person for everything the eye left out. One criterion can run an entire life when nothing else is allowed into the frame.

Self-Help

A choice made on what fills the eye today will bill a person for everything the eye left out.

One criterion can run an entire life when nothing else is allowed into the frame. Well watered was the whole standard, and a standard sets the feeling, the feeling sets the direction, and a direction taken becomes an address.

Everything omitted was available. Who lived on that ground, and what Yahweh would eventually do about them, were both real at the moment of the survey, and neither entered the arithmetic. This is how a ruinous decision and a shrewd one feel identical while they are being made. A person who weighs only what is visible and immediate keeps choosing the richer ground and keeps ending up somewhere they would never have chosen on purpose.

Live Genesis 13:10 today

  1. Before you accept the obvious choice today, the cheaper flight, the apartment with the great light, the job with the bigger number, write down one thing you have not looked at yet and go look at it.
  2. When someone tells you about a decision they are excited about, ask them what they already know about it that they have been setting aside. Ask warmly, then let them talk.
  3. When a deal or an offer comes with a clock on it, say out loud that you need until tomorrow. Pressure narrows the frame to one number, and one number is never the whole price.

What am I choosing right now on one feature alone?

Tao Te Ching 12

The five colors blind the eye and the five flavors dull the mouth. What is loud and bright crowds out everything quieter that was also in the room, so the sage judges by the center rather than by what shouts.

Stoicism · Epictetus

When something attractive presents itself, hold it at arm's length and name what comes with it, including the part that will arrive later. The impression is not the thing; the untested impression is what costs you.

Buddhism · guarding the senses

When the mind dwells on the attractive feature of a thing, craving takes that feature for the whole object. Restraint at the sense doors means seeing the thing complete, with what it carries.
