One whole consciousness divides into 2 poles, and what was single in the beginning is drawn apart into an active side and a receptive side so that each can behold the other. Before this, awareness held both natures in one body without inner tension; the separation is the moment the mind splits into the reaching, willing power and the feeling, receiving power that answers it.

The 2 are then set face to face, brought together again, because they were never meant to stay strangers. The drama read as the first marriage is the single self learning to relate to its own halves.
What the old story hides is not the making of a second person but the parting of one nature into 2 that must find each other again inside the same person.
