Genesis 24:21 Meaning The Man Looked Steadfastly at Her

The man looked steadfastly at her, remaining silent, to know whether Yahweh had made his journey prosperous or not.

What does Genesis 24:21 mean?

There is a way of waiting that is not anxious, a stillness in which you watch what unfolds without rushing to name it good or bad. The man holds his peace and simply wonders, letting the moment reveal itself rather than forcing his mind to conclude.

Ego v. Being

There is a way of waiting that is not anxious, a stillness in which you watch what unfolds without rushing to name it good or bad. The man holds his peace and simply wonders, letting the moment reveal itself rather than forcing his mind to conclude. He does not yet know how things will turn out, and he does not need to.

This quiet watching is the essence of presence. When you stop demanding that life tell you at once whether you have succeeded or failed, you become open to what is actually happening in front of you. And in that patient stillness, clarity comes on its own, because you are no longer drowning the moment in the noise of your judgment.

  1. When a message comes in that you can't read yet, a test result, a reply you've been waiting for, don't rehearse both endings. Put the phone face down and stay with the next ten minutes as they actually are.
  2. In a conversation today, when you feel the urge to jump in with your verdict, stay quiet one beat longer than is comfortable. Let the other person finish arriving at what they mean.
  3. In a meeting that is going badly, resist calling it a disaster while it's still happening. Sit back, watch, and let the room show you what it is before you decide.

What are you rushing to name before it has finished happening?
