Genesis 28:22 Meaning Then This Stone

then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give a tenth to you.

What does Genesis 28:22 mean?

The stone raised upright as a pillar is the awakened point in the body set standing along the spine, and this erected column becomes the house where the divine dwells within a person. What lay flat as an ordinary stone under the head now rises as a sanctuary, the inner support along which the higher life ascends.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The stone raised upright as a pillar is the awakened point in the body set standing along the spine, and this erected column becomes the house where the divine dwells within a person. What lay flat as an ordinary stone under the head now rises as a sanctuary, the inner support along which the higher life ascends. The tenth given back is the measured return of energy, the portion of what flows through a person offered upward to its source.

The pillar is consciousness lifted from the ground and made to stand, so the body itself becomes the dwelling place. The tenth is the steady giving back of a share of one's whole force.

Stone: the awakened point in the body, first lying flat as ordinary matter Pillar: the erected inner column along the spine, made to stand upright as a dwelling for the divine God's house: the body itself become the sanctuary once the inner pillar rises Tenth: the measured portion of a person's energy returned upward to its source

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

A man fleeing for his life sleeps in the open, a stone under his head. In the night something rises from his depths, and he wakes shaken, certain he has touched the holy. The plain stone now holds the weight of that meeting, so he stands it upright and pours oil on it. When the deep center of a person finally speaks, he has to fix the moment to something solid or watch it fade.

He promises a tenth because he knows the meeting was not his own doing. Giving part of everything back keeps the door open and reminds him that he received this life and did not make it.

Live Genesis 28:22 today

  1. Sit up once today without being told to. On the couch, at your desk, in the car at a red light, let your back lengthen and your head sit level, and stay there for three slow breaths. Treat your own frame as something worth keeping upright.
  2. Give someone a tenth of something you have today, not the leftovers. Ten minutes of real attention while they talk, a tenth of the pastry, the first reply of the morning instead of the last. Small, measured, off the top.
  3. When the pressure hits, a hard meeting, a line that will not move, a message that lands wrong, hold your posture before you hold your tongue. Feet down, back tall, phone lowered. The body steadies first and the rest follows.

What would change in me if I treated my own body as a place worth keeping in order?

Hatha Yoga tradition

The spine is treated as the central channel of the body, and the practices begin by making it straight and still, because the higher energy is said to rise only along a column that stands.

Tao Te Ching 11

The clay is shaped into a vessel, and the use of the vessel is the hollow inside it. What is built outwardly matters because something can now dwell within.

Judaism · the tithe

A tenth of the harvest is set apart and given upward, not because the giver owes a tax, but because the first share returned to the source keeps the whole yield from becoming merely one's own.
