Genesis 31:15 Meaning Aren’t We Considered as Foreigners by Him

Aren’t we considered as foreigners by him? For he has sold us, and has also used up our money.

What does Genesis 31:15 mean?

This is the ego's own testimony, the voice of a mind that believes it has been treated as an outsider and stripped of its worth. To feel counted a stranger by one's own father is to hold the ancient conviction of exile, that the self was sold, spent, and left with nothing.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

This is the ego's own testimony, the voice of a mind that believes it has been treated as an outsider and stripped of its worth. To feel counted a stranger by one's own father is to hold the ancient conviction of exile, that the self was sold, spent, and left with nothing. Every grievance rehearses this account, insisting that value has been taken and cannot be recovered.

Yet the complaint is the very belief that keeps the mind poor, for what it calls devoured was never truly lost, only forgotten by a mind persuaded it had been cheated of its inheritance.

Strangers: the self-image of a mind convinced it has been cast out and does not belong, the felt condition of exile. Her father: the ego as source and withholder, the imagined authority that reduces its own to outsiders and spends their worth.

Live Genesis 31:15 today

  1. Pick the grievance you have rehearsed most this month and, just for today, do not tell it to yourself again.
  2. When you are tempted to list for someone all the ways you were used, say one true sentence about it and then ask them about their week.
  3. In a meeting where you feel treated as an outsider, speak up once about the work itself. You belong to the room by what you bring, not by their invitation.

What have I decided was taken from me that is actually still here?

Suffering lives in the grip, not in the thing gripped. Hold the grievance and you keep paying for it long after the event is over.

Stoicism · Epictetus

No one can truly take from you what is yours, your judgments and your choices. Everything else was on loan from the start.

Taoism · Zhuangzi

The one who feels robbed by the world has made the world the owner of their worth, and so lives poor in the middle of plenty.
