Genesis 31:16 Meaning For All the Riches Which God Has

For all the riches which God has taken away from our father are ours and our children’s. Now then, whatever God has said to you, do.

What does Genesis 31:16 mean?

Here the mind turns from counting its losses to claiming what was always its own. The riches are not plunder taken from a rival but the restoration of an inheritance the ego had seemed to hold, now recognized as belonging to the awakened self and all it will bring forth.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Here the mind turns from counting its losses to claiming what was always its own. The riches are not plunder taken from a rival but the restoration of an inheritance the ego had seemed to hold, now recognized as belonging to the awakened self and all it will bring forth. The moment the mind stops disputing ownership with fear, it is free to obey the only voice worth obeying.

And so the reasoning ends not in argument but in willingness, a mind agreeing simply to do what love directs, because it has understood that everything of value was always meant for it.

Riches: the true inheritance of the mind, the worth that was never really the ego's to keep and is now reclaimed. Our father: the ego as false possessor, the belief that fear held what in truth belongs to the awakened self. Our children: the extensions and fruits of a healed mind, all that a restored self will bring into being.

Live Genesis 31:16 today

  1. Instead of making another case for what you deserve, do the one small thing you know is right today, the overdue message, the walk, the apology.
  2. Drop the argument you have been winning in your head with someone, and send them the plain practical sentence the situation actually needs.
  3. When a decision at work goes against you, stop relitigating it and ask what you can usefully do next. Say that out loud in the room.

Where am I still arguing over ownership when I could simply do the next right thing?

The same truth in other traditions

Hinduism · Bhagavad Gita

Stop arguing with the outcome and simply do what is right in front of you. Willingness, not debate, is where peace starts.

Tao Te Ching 33

To know what is truly yours is wealth. The one who grasps at ownership is always poor, however much is in hand.

Stoicism · Seneca

It is not the poor man who has little but the one who craves more. What you were given is already enough to live on.
