Genesis 32:26 · World English Bible
The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”
As light nears, the old self asks to be released and slip back into the dark, for the ego prefers the night where it is not clearly seen. But a mind ready to be healed refuses to let the struggle end without gain; it will not release its grip until the encounter yields a blessing instead of a wound.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
As light nears, the old self asks to be released and slip back into the dark, for the ego prefers the night where it is not clearly seen. But a mind ready to be healed refuses to let the struggle end without gain; it will not release its grip until the encounter yields a blessing instead of a wound. Here the whole contest turns, for the mind stops fighting to win and begins insisting on being blessed, which is the demand that even this dark meeting be turned to good.
The refusal to let go without a blessing is the mind claiming the truth from its own confusion. It has decided the night will not close until it has taken something holy from it, and that decision is the miracle beginning.
Day breaketh: the arrival of light in the mind, the clarity the old self would flee before it is fully seen

SELF-HELP
A standard you would like to reach produces nothing until the moment you decide you cannot live without it.
A should leaves an exit open, and the mind quietly routes its energy toward that exit. A must seals it. The standard sets the state, the state refuses retreat, and refusal is what makes the how arrive, because resourcefulness shows up only when there is nowhere else for it to go.
Refusing to release the grip is not stubbornness but a man collecting proof of a decision already made about who he is. Lower a must back to a preference and the hand opens on its own, and the blessing that was one held minute away goes unclaimed.
Christian Psychology lens
What am I holding onto that I keep trying to escape before it can bless me?
Arjuna does not walk away from the battlefield of his own divided heart. He stays in the hard conversation until he is given sight, and the staying is what changes him.
The great doubt is not something to escape before dawn. You hold it, press into it, and refuse to set it down until it breaks open into understanding.
The wound is where the light enters. Do not rush past the ache; ask it for what it came to give.
