Jacob is the striving self at the stage of the supplanter, the mind that has gained by cunning and now turns back toward its root before the wrestling that will rename it. He calls on the God of Abraham and Isaac because these are not distant ancestors but earlier stations of the same unfolding life within a person, the faith and the inner laughter that came before the struggle.

ESOTERIC
Jacob is the striving self at the stage of the supplanter, the mind that has gained by cunning and now turns back toward its root before the wrestling that will rename it. He calls on the God of Abraham and Isaac because these are not distant ancestors but earlier stations of the same unfolding life within a person, the faith and the inner laughter that came before the struggle. The summons to return to country and kindred is consciousness gathering the scattered self toward its origin.
The striving mind, about to meet its higher power in the dark, first reaches back through the stations already passed. Return here is the turn homeward that comes before the self is changed.
Jacob: the striving supplanter self that gains by cunning before it is transformed Abraham: an earlier station of the inner life, the faculty of faith within a person Isaac: an earlier station of the inner life, the inner laughter or joy that precedes the struggle Country: the origin within a person to which the scattered self is summoned to return

What do you already know, that you keep forgetting right when you need it?
All things return to their root, and in that returning they find stillness. To go back to where you came from is not retreat, it is coming into your right mind.
What you are looking for is what you already are, and the search is a long way around to the ground you stand on.
Before any hard thing, go back to the principles you already hold and say them to yourself again. You are not inventing courage, you are picking up what was handed to you.
