On the third day, when they were sore, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword, came upon the unsuspecting city, and killed all the males.

This is where a grievance nursed as righteous arrives: at slaughter carried out with a clear conscience. The mind that judged an offense real, then answered it with cunning, now strikes while the other is defenseless and calls the massacre justice. Attack, once justified, does not stay small. It consumes everything, because guilt projected outward always demands more blood to feel satisfied, and is never satisfied.

The drawn swords are the mind's own condemnation turned into a weapon. Every figure cut down is a projection of the guilt the attacker will not look at in himself. Vengeance heals nothing; it only spreads the wound and hardens the belief that the world outside must be punished for what the mind fears within.

Simeon and Levi: the mind's executioners, the thoughts of vengeance that turn a justified grievance into destruction. The swords: the mind's own condemnation made into a weapon, guilt sharpened and aimed outward at a world blamed for the attacker's fear. The city: the field of projection, the seeming outside laid waste because a mind will not see that the enemy is its own unexamined guilt.

Cutting away the lower thoughts brings new life through the whole of consciousness. On the third day, the level where body, mind, and spirit meet, the higher energies rise up armed and sweep through the city of awareness, striking down every male, meaning every lower thought still carrying its desire. Levi is the priestly higher energy obeying spiritual direction, and his sword is the sharp discriminating force that severs the crowd of grasping thoughts from within.

The males slain are the desiring mental powers that had defiled the inner feeling, and their being cut down is the mind cleared of its cravings so that consciousness can begin again. What reads as slaughter in a city is the inner purging by which the sacred feeling is avenged and the field of the mind is emptied of appetite.

Jacob: the spirit within a person City: consciousness, the whole structure of awareness Levi: the priestly higher energy that obeys spiritual direction Sword: the discriminating force that severs the lower thoughts from the mind Males: the desiring lower thoughts cut down within the awareness

  1. If you are rehearsing an argument in the shower or on the drive home, catch it and stop. The replays are not preparation, they are practice at staying angry.
  2. When someone is already apologizing or already losing, do not add the last line. The urge to finish them off is the part you will regret by dinner.
  3. In traffic, when someone cuts you off, let your hand stay off the horn and let the story stay untold. One small ungranted punishment is a real thing.
