Genesis 39:23 Meaning The Keeper of the Prison Didn’t Look

The keeper of the prison didn’t look after anything that was under his hand, because Yahweh was with him; and that which he did, Yahweh made it prosper.

What does Genesis 39:23 mean?

When a mind rests wholly in love, the very authority that would watch and constrain it loosens its hold and looks away, because nothing needs guarding where fear has been released. The keeper stops overseeing because there is no longer a captive struggling to escape, only a mind at peace.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

When a mind rests wholly in love, the very authority that would watch and constrain it loosens its hold and looks away, because nothing needs guarding where fear has been released. The keeper stops overseeing because there is no longer a captive struggling to escape, only a mind at peace. What such a mind does flourishes, not through effort against the world but because love, not the ego, is now directing it.

So the appearance of being watched and confined dissolves the moment the mind stops believing it is a prisoner at all.

Keeper of the prison: the ego's vigilance over the mind, which relaxes when the mind no longer fears its captivity Prison: the seeming limitation that has no power over a mind resting in love

Live Genesis 39:23 today

  1. Pick one task today and do it without checking how it is landing. No refreshing, no counting, just the work and then the next thing.
  2. Stop managing one person's opinion of you. Say what you mean, do what you said, and let them think what they think.
  3. When the pressure rises and you feel watched, keep working at the same pace you had before anyone was looking. The watching does not actually change what the next step is.

How much of your effort today goes into the work, and how much into being seen doing it?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching

The best work happens where no one is straining. Things go well on their own when nobody is forcing them.

Bhagavad Gita

Do the work and let go of the outcome. Released from the clutch on results, the doing itself comes out clean.

Zen

When the man stops pulling at the rope, the rope stops pulling back. Nothing was holding him but the pulling.
