MANIFESTATION
To know, in this old sense, is imagination joining itself completely to a state until that state conceives and takes form. Adam is the awareness of being, the first and the last, and Eve is the receptive side of the same self. When the two meet in an inner act of union, something is born into experience. That is how every desire becomes fact.
What she brings forth she credits to the LORD, and she is right, because the creative power that answered was her own I AM, her own sense of being. Cain is a first birth, and the pattern of this book keeps passing the promise to the second son, the one chosen out of humanity rather than the one who comes by natural priority. Everything a person imagines is fathered from within. The self impresses the self, and life delivers what was conceived there.

ESOTERIC
Adam is the reasoning mind and Eve the feeling nature that receives it, and their union inside one person brings forth a first offspring who is not peace but grasping. Cain, whose name opens as acquisition and possession, is the ego born of mind wedded to desire, the getting-self that seizes and claims. When the feeling nature announces it has gotten a man, it mistakes the acquisitive impulse for a gift from above, crowning the very drive that will later strike down its gentler brother. The first thing the awakened human produces, when reason serves desire, is the will to own.
Adam: the reasoning, mental faculty in a person, the red earth shaped into thought. Eve: the feeling and desire nature that receives the mind and gives its impulses form. Cain: the acquisitive ego, the getting-self, possession and grasping born when mind is bent to desire.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
History proper begins here. With the birth of the first son outside the garden, the account leaves cosmic origins behind and turns to the human story of brothers. It becomes the densest, most unflinching thing in the whole collection. A child arrives, received as a gift from the highest source. The mother names him with something close to triumph. She cannot see what he will become.
Every such arrival carries a shadow. Cain will soon stand against his brother, and the deepest of all struggles, the fratricidal one, is already latent in this small joy. To bring a child into being is the greatest sacrifice a person can make, and also a wager on an outcome no one controls. You offer up your future in the shape of a son. What he does with the gift is his own to decide, and the weight of that is enormous.
Manifestation lens
What have I been quietly conceiving this week without meaning to?
Desire is described as the first seed stirring in the one awareness, and from that inward stirring the whole visible world comes out. Nothing arrives from outside the self that was not first conceived inside it.
Whatever we are now came out of what we thought; mind goes first, and the world follows along behind it like a cart behind the ox.
The one divides into two, the two join, and out of that union the ten thousand things are born. The split is not a separation, it is how anything comes to be.
