The famine was severe in the land.

Genesis 43:1 · World English Bible
The famine was severe in the land.
A famine in the land is the drying-up of nourishment across the whole territory of the body when the higher supply is cut off. The land is the physical form and its faculties, and when spirit no longer feeds them the entire self grows lean and desperate, driven by lack toward a source it has neglected.

ESOTERIC
A famine in the land is the drying-up of nourishment across the whole territory of the body when the higher supply is cut off. The land is the physical form and its faculties, and when spirit no longer feeds them the entire self grows lean and desperate, driven by lack toward a source it has neglected. This severe hunger is the pressure that finally forces a person to go seeking sustenance beyond the surface life, into the deeper storehouse where real food is kept. Emptiness itself becomes the goad that moves the starved self toward its buried supply.
When the whole of a person is starved for want of inner nourishment, that very hunger is what finally drives them to look for the deeper source they had ignored.
Famine: the drying-up of inner nourishment, the felt lack that presses a starved self toward the source it has neglected The land: the physical body and its faculties, the whole territory that goes lean when spirit stops feeding it

What is this hunger trying to send me toward?
The usefulness of the cup is the empty part. What feels like nothing in you is the room where something can finally arrive.
The full cup cannot be poured into. Only the one who knows they are empty goes looking, and the looking is the beginning.
The wound is where the light gets in, and the hunger is what sends you out. Do not try to fill the ache before it has told you where to go.
