Genesis 6:13 Meaning God Said to Noah

God said to Noah, “I will bring an end to all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them and the earth.

What does Genesis 6:13 mean?

The flood is a warning of coming judgment, spoken to the place of inner rest inside a person. The earth here is the mind, and its being filled with violence is the whole field of thought grown turbulent and lawless, so that the physical nature drawn from one's parents has reached its limit and must end.

The flood is a warning of coming judgment, spoken to the place of inner rest inside a person. The earth here is the mind, and its being filled with violence is the whole field of thought grown turbulent and lawless, so that the physical nature drawn from one's parents has reached its limit and must end. Noah is that quiet place of rest within, the still point addressed while everything around it churns toward its own undoing.

The end of all flesh coming before the higher mind is the point at which the coarse, violent thinking can no longer stand, and the mind that bred it is swept clean along with it. What religion reads as a far-off catastrophe on the water is the inner reckoning that overtakes a person when the turbulent lower mind has filled itself with violence and the still center alone is preserved.

Earth: the mind, the whole field of thought Noah: rest, the still place of inner rest within a person Flesh: the physical body and nature drawn from one's parents

  1. When your own thinking turns mean and loud, sitting alone at night with your phone, put it face down and just let yourself breathe for a minute. You do not have to argue with the thoughts, only stop feeding them.
  2. If a group chat is spiraling into pile-on and sarcasm, be the one who does not add fuel. Send something plain and kind, or say nothing at all and let the thread run out of air.
  3. In a tense meeting or in traffic when someone cuts you off, let the first hot sentence pass unsaid. Find the quiet spot behind your ribs that is not shouting, and answer from there.

What have I been letting build up in my head that I would never say out loud?

Tao Te Ching

A storm of wind does not last the morning, a hard rain does not last the day. What is violent in its own nature wears itself out, which is why the sage does not try to match it.

Buddhism · Dhammapada

The mind untrained and lawless does more harm to a person than any enemy could. What floods you first is your own thinking.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

The soul becomes dyed the color of its thoughts, and thoughts that attack everything end by attacking the one who holds them.
