Genesis 6:14 Meaning Make a Ship of Gopher Wood

Make a ship of gopher wood. You shall make rooms in the ship, and shall seal it inside and outside with pitch.

What does Genesis 6:14 mean?

The vessel to be built is the awakened body itself, made ready to ride out the flood of the lower nature without being drowned by it. Its wood is a living frame; its many rooms are the separated centers within a person, each chamber sealed off so that one passion cannot spill into and swamp the rest.

The vessel to be built is the awakened body itself, made ready to ride out the flood of the lower nature without being drowned by it. Its wood is a living frame; its many rooms are the separated centers within a person, each chamber sealed off so that one passion cannot spill into and swamp the rest.

The sealing within and without is the mind made watertight on both faces, guarded against the emotional deluge from inside and the pull of the senses from outside, so the higher self can float above the rising waters of desire and survive the drowning of the old man.

The ark: the awakened body built to carry a person safely over the flood of the lower nature Rooms: the separate inner centers, each sealed so that one appetite cannot flood and overwhelm the whole Pitch within and without: the mind sealed on both faces, closed against the emotional flood from within and the pull of the senses from without The flood (implied): the rising waters of desire and feeling that drown the old animal self

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

The command is to build before the water comes, and that is the whole of wisdom in one instruction. Assume the flood, because it is going to happen. Catastrophe is not a possibility to hedge against but a certainty to prepare for. The person who grasps this builds the boat while the sky is still clear and the neighbors are still laughing. The ark is foresight made solid, room by careful room.

Sealed within and without, the vessel is built to hold against the chaos it will have to ride. A man orders his life this way, sealing the seams, making the structure sound long before he needs it. Comfort tempts everyone to believe the good weather will last. That belief is a lie. Build the thing that will carry you and what you love through the deluge, and build it now, while there is still time to swing the hammer.

Live Genesis 6:14 today

  1. Turn off the notifications that leak into everything, and give one thing a sealed hour: a walk, a meal, a book. The room stays dry because you closed the door.
  2. When someone brings you their bad day, let it land without letting it become your whole evening. You can be fully with them and still keep your own floor from flooding.
  3. On a hard day, keep the rooms separate. A rough morning at work does not get to pour into the drive home, and the drive home does not get to pour into dinner.
