Genesis 6:7 Meaning Yahweh Said

Yahweh said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground—man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky—for I am sorry that I have made them.”

What does Genesis 6:7 mean?

A mind deep in guilt cannot imagine mercy, so it dreams a love that would wipe out everything it has made. The threat of total destruction is the ego's own self-hatred spoken in a borrowed voice, sweeping creature and sky into the sentence because guilt, once loosed, spares nothing it looks upon.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A mind deep in guilt cannot imagine mercy, so it dreams a love that would wipe out everything it has made. The threat of total destruction is the ego's own self-hatred spoken in a borrowed voice, sweeping creature and sky into the sentence because guilt, once loosed, spares nothing it looks upon.

What sounds like the wrath of heaven is only the mind condemning its whole world at once. Love destroys nothing, for nothing real was ever made wrong. When a mind sees that the death it dreads is its own judgment and not a decree from above, it can lay the judgment down and find the world was never marked for ruin.

Beast, creeping thing, and fowls of the air: the whole living world the guilty mind sweeps into its own sentence, every creature made to share the condemnation the mind has passed on itself.

Live Genesis 6:7 today

  1. When you catch yourself concluding that today is a write off, stop and name three plain things that are fine. Not a gratitude exercise, just an honest count.
  2. Pick the person you have quietly written off and do one ordinary decent thing for them: answer the message, hold the door, ask a real question.
  3. In a tense meeting or a hard conversation, when the urge rises to burn it all down, wait out one breath. Say the smaller, truer sentence instead of the final one.

What have I condemned wholesale that I have never looked at piece by piece?

The same truth in other traditions

Dhammapada

All beings long to be happy; whoever strikes another in search of his own happiness will not find it. The sentence you pass on anything falls back onto you.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

To demand that people not be as they are is like demanding that a fig tree bear no figs. Things act out their nature; the condemnation is something we add and then suffer.

Taoism · Zhuangzi

The one who divides the world into acceptable and worthless ends up at war with the whole of it. The sage makes no such cut and so has no enemies.
