CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
This is the mind projecting its own sorrow onto love and imagining that love regrets and grieves. The ego cannot conceive of a source that only gives, so it paints even love in the colors of its own guilt, making the eternal wear a face of disappointment. The grief described belongs to the mind, not to God.
Seeing this clearly is itself a healing. When a mind recognizes that it has dressed love in its own remorse, it can stop fearing a wounded God and remember that love has no regret to feel, because in truth nothing has gone wrong that needs to be mourned.

ESOTERIC
The grief at the heart is the higher intelligence within recoiling from what the mind has become once it sank wholly into the flesh. Man upon the earth is consciousness fallen entirely into the ground of the body, given over to appetite and the lower nature until nothing of the higher aim remains visible.
The sorrow is not a distant deity's regret but the deep self turning against its own descent, the awareness within mourning that the human faculties have grown heavy and corrupt. The heart, the inner seat of feeling, registers the whole weight of a consciousness that has forgotten its origin and become only earthbound.
Earth: the ground of the physical body and the lower nature into which consciousness has fully sunk Heart: the inner seat of feeling within, where the higher intelligence registers grief at its own descent into flesh
Christian Psychology lens
Whose disappointment am I bracing for, and is it anyone's but my own?
Heaven and earth are not sentimental; they hold all things without taking offense. What we read as rebuke is our own face in the water.
He said the beloved is not angry at your absence, because the beloved never left and never counted the days. The grief was all on our side of the door.
We mistake the rope for a snake and then tremble at a danger that was never there. When sight clears, there is nothing to apologize to and nothing that was harmed.
