Genesis 7:1 · World English Bible

Genesis 7:1 Meaning Yahweh Said to Noah

Yahweh said to Noah, “Come with all of your household into the ship, for I have seen your righteousness before me in this generation.

What does Genesis 7:1 mean?

The call to come inside is love inviting the mind home to itself. A mind seen as righteous is not one that passed a test but one that let love look and therefore found nothing to blame, for the eyes of love report only innocence.

The call to come inside is love inviting the mind home to itself. A mind seen as righteous is not one that passed a test but one that let love look and therefore found nothing to blame, for the eyes of love report only innocence.

And the whole house is summoned, not a favored fragment. Every faculty of the mind is welcomed into the shelter of right perception, because healing that leaves any part outside is not yet healing. To enter is simply to accept that love holds all of the mind at once, and that safety is not a place but a way of seeing.

Noah: the part of the mind judged innocent by love, the awakened self called in from the storm of fear. Ark: the sanctuary of right-mindedness, the peace a mind rests in once it lets love do the seeing. House: the full company of the mind's faculties, every thought and power gathered under a single loving choice.

The call to enter the ark with the whole household is the drawing of the balanced self and all its faculties into a sealed vessel of safety before the flood of the lower waters rises. Noah, whose name is rest or comfort, is the point of stillness within a person that has stayed true amid a swamped age, the settled center found upright when everything around it has turned to flood.

The ark is the protected inner enclosure, the sealed condition of consciousness that rides above the drowning waters of dissolving emotion and mass confusion. To bring the house inside is to gather every faculty into that stillness so the whole being is preserved through the deluge. What sounds like the start of a flood story is the inward act of a person drawing all their powers into the one calm center that survives when the lower waters overflow.

Live Genesis 7:1 today

  1. Sit down with the part of yourself you usually keep out of sight, the anxious one or the tired one, and let it be present without fixing it.
  2. Let one person today see something unpolished about you, something you would normally edit out of the conversation. That is what being welcomed feels like from the inside.
  3. On a day when you feel behind and not entitled to rest, take the break anyway. You do not have to earn your way into being okay.

Which part of myself am I keeping outside the door, waiting until it is good enough to come in?

The same truth in other traditions

Sufism

An old quatrain calls everyone in, wanderer or worshipper or one who has broken a vow a hundred times. The door is not a reward; it is an invitation already open.

Zen

Bring everything to the cushion, the restlessness and the boredom and the shame. Practice that keeps part of you outside the room is not yet practice.

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to the root and you find stillness. Nothing has to be left behind for the return, because the root holds all of it.
