Nobody feels like straightening up first, which is exactly why straightening up is given as the command.

Hands drop and knees soften before a person consciously quits, and that drooping is not a symptom to wait out, it is the machinery holding discouragement in place. Slumped physiology narrows what a mind will even consider attempting.

The command goes to the body because the body is the part still under orders when confidence is gone. Lift the hands and the state moves, the state moves and the emotion follows, and the feet keep going on a road that looked finished a minute earlier. Anyone waiting for strength to arrive before they change their posture spends the entire wait getting weaker.

Live Hebrews 12:12 today

  1. When discouragement hits today, stand up, put your shoulders back, and walk around the block. Do it before you feel like it, because feeling like it is not coming first.
  2. On the next call or across the dinner table, put the phone down and look at the person. Your body going first often brings the care along with it.
  3. In the meeting where you have given up on being heard, sit up and uncross your arms before you speak. Small, and it changes what you are willing to say.

What have you been waiting to feel before you were willing to move?
