Hebrews 3:19 Meaning We See That They Weren’t Able

We see that they weren’t able to enter in because of unbelief.

What does Hebrews 3:19 mean?

When what stopped a generation turns out to be a belief, the one obstacle left is the one they could have moved. A conclusion reached at a border sets the emotion, the emotion sets the feet, and feet that turn around write four decades of circling.

When what stopped a generation turns out to be a belief, the one obstacle left is the one they could have moved.

A conclusion reached at a border sets the emotion, the emotion sets the feet, and feet that turn around write four decades of circling. Land already deeded to them stayed foreign because the boundary they obeyed was inside their chests.

That verdict is brutal and merciful at once. Armies and walled cities cannot be negotiated with. A certainty can be taken apart, because every one of them is propped up by references collected in a panic and never audited. Anyone stalled at the edge of something for years is not waiting on conditions to improve, and giving that up costs him his best excuse.

Live Hebrews 3:19 today

  1. Write the sentence that has been keeping you out, "I am not the kind of person who," or "it is too late for," and then ask yourself honestly where you got it. Most of these were handed to us on a bad day and never checked.
  2. Ask one person who knows you well whether the thing you say you cannot do actually looks impossible from the outside. Listen to the answer without defending the belief.
  3. When the doubt shows up at the exact moment you were about to step forward, hitting send, speaking up, walking in, treat it as weather and not as instruction. Step anyway and let it rain on you.

What have I been calling a closed door for years, and when did I last actually push on it?

Dhammapada 1

We are made by what we think. The mind that believes the road is closed will walk home without ever touching the gate.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Epictetus taught that it is not things that disturb us but our judgments about them, which is good news, since a judgment is the one thing in reach. The wall you can actually move is the one you built.

Zen

A student spent years at the threshold, waiting to be ready. The teacher said the gate has no gate, you are leaning on air.
