PROTESTANT

Protestant

God's rest is His own, and the door to it is sworn shut against those He names. They will not enter, and the reason is unbelief, not a lack of effort. They heard the promise and did not lean their weight on it.

That rest is God's settled peace, where striving ends because the work is His. Faith opens it, taking Him at His word, and no amount of trying harder can. Refusing to believe leaves a person outside what God held out. God keeps His oath, and the cost of unbelief lands on the one who will not trust.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

To enter into rest is not to travel anywhere. It is to step out of the incessant stream of thought and into the awareness that is always here, underneath everything. The rest is not somewhere else; it is the stillness you overlook because your attention is captured by wanting and worrying.

You enter it the moment you become present, the moment you feel the aliveness in your body or the silent space behind your thoughts. Nothing needs to be achieved for this. Entering the rest simply means ceasing to resist this moment as it is, and in that ceasing, the peace that was always beneath the noise becomes what you are.

Live Hebrews 4:5 today

  1. Take one thing you have been gripping all week, the outcome you keep refreshing your email about, and hand it over out loud before you open the laptop.
  2. When someone tells you they are stretched thin, do not hand them a plan. Pray for them, and tell them plainly that you trust God with it rather than offering five steps.
  3. At the moment today when the pressure spikes and your instinct is to push harder, stop for one breath and admit you cannot carry it, then do the next ordinary thing.

What am I still trying to earn that God has already held out to me?

The way forward is by subtracting rather than adding, until things get done without forcing. Striving harder is the opposite of arriving.

Hinduism · Bhagavad Gita

Krishna tells Arjuna to let go of the fruits of his action and surrender the outcome, and the peace that follows comes from the trusting, not from a better effort.

Islam · Tawakkul

Reliance on God is taught as the settled state of the believer, who does what is before them and leaves the result with God. The rest comes from trusting, not from gripping harder.
