Hebrews 7:4 Meaning Now Consider How Great This Man Was
Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth out of the best plunder.

Hebrews 7:4 · World English Bible
Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth out of the best plunder.
The greatness measured here is an order of consciousness already resident in a person before the striving self ever forms. Melchizedek, whose name unfolds as king of righteousness, is the priest without lineage: the still awareness that owes nothing to birth, memory, or effort, and to which the whole seeking mind must finally bow.

ESOTERIC
The greatness measured here is an order of consciousness already resident in a person before the striving self ever forms. Melchizedek, whose name unfolds as king of righteousness, is the priest without lineage: the still awareness that owes nothing to birth, memory, or effort, and to which the whole seeking mind must finally bow.
Abraham is that seeking mind, the father of the faithful who wins his battles in the outer world yet hands over a portion of everything he gathers. The number 10 is the full account of a life's winnings, and setting aside 1 part of it acknowledges that all the mind's spoils belong to a knowing that was there first. The self bows to the awareness it never made.
Melchizedek: the priest-consciousness with no beginning or descent, the pure awareness in a person that owes nothing to birth or effort Abraham: the seeking, faithful mind that fathers a whole line of thought and gathers its victories in the outer world The tenth: the whole measured sum of what a life takes in, 1 full account of its gains rendered up The spoils: everything the striving mind wins in its battles, carried home as its own
Esoteric lens
How much of what you count as yours was simply given to you?
What can be named came later; the nameless was there at the beginning, and everything the mind catches hold of comes out of it.
The knower cannot be known the way objects are known, because every act of knowing already rests on it. It was there before the first thought.
This mind is not something you reach by seeking, because it is what is doing the seeking. Years of effort only clear away the idea that it had to be found.
