ESOTERIC

Esoteric

2 orders live in one body. The men who die and take tithes are the mortal parts, the passing appetites and functions that rise and fall and demand their portion. But there is another within, of whom it is witnessed that he lives, and this is the deathless self that receives without perishing. The whole point is that something in a person never dies while everything around it does, and the inner work is to find and inhabit that living center rather than the parts that keep on dying.

Men that die: the mortal parts and appetites of a person, passing and demanding their portion He that liveth: the deathless self within, the center that receives and never perishes

Live Hebrews 7:8 today

  1. When a craving or a mood demands its payment today, let it make its case and then do nothing about it. Watch it rise and leave on its own.
  2. At dinner or on a call, give one person your whole attention instead of half of it. The part of you that can actually be present is the part worth spending.
  3. When a deadline, a diagnosis, or a hard email makes everything feel like life or death, pause and ask what in this is actually passing. Then answer from the part that is not.

The body wears out like a used garment while the one wearing it is untouched. Weapons do not cut it and fire does not burn it.

Buddhism · the Anatta teaching

Everything you keep calling yourself, the moods, the aches, the opinions, is arriving and leaving. Seeing that clearly is where the clinging loosens.

Stoicism · Epictetus

He said the body and reputation are not yours but on loan, while the part of you that chooses how to meet things is the only thing truly your own.
