Hebrews 7:9 Meaning We Can Say That Through Abraham Even

We can say that through Abraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes,

What does Hebrews 7:9 mean?

Levi is the priestly function of the body, the faculty that stands between the person and the divine and receives what is offered upward. Yet Levi, still unborn in the loins of Abraham, already paid the tithe through his forefather, because every later power in a person is contained in seed within the earlier one that produced it.

Levi is the priestly function of the body, the faculty that stands between the person and the divine and receives what is offered upward. Yet Levi, still unborn in the loins of Abraham, already paid the tithe through his forefather, because every later power in a person is contained in seed within the earlier one that produced it. The whole priesthood was present, folded and dormant, in the man who bowed to Melchizedek.

What a person becomes is already latent in what a person is, and an act performed at the root is performed by every branch that will grow from it. The higher center that Melchizedek names ranks above even the priestly faculty, because that faculty was still contained in the seed when the tithe was paid.

Levi: the priestly faculty of the body that receives what is offered up to the divine Abraham: the seed-self, the founding root in which all later faculties lie folded and unborn Tithe: the tenth portion returned upward, here paid in seed before it was ever born

Live Hebrews 7:9 today

  1. Pick one small thing you do first in the day, how you hold your phone when you wake, the first words you say out loud, and treat it as the seed of the whole day rather than a throwaway moment.
  2. With one person today, say the generous thing early in the conversation instead of waiting to see how it goes. The tone you set in the first minute is the tone your kids or your coworkers will be standing in an hour later.
  3. When pressure hits, a sharp email or someone cutting you off in traffic, pause before your first reaction, because that first reaction is the root and every later minute of your day will grow out of it.

What am I planting right now that I will be living inside of tonight?

Buddhism · Dhammapada

Everything we become follows from the mind that moved first. The thought is the seed, and the whole harvest of a life is folded inside it.

The tree that takes two arms to circle began as something you could hold between two fingers. Whatever is handled at the beginning is handled everywhere it will go.

Hinduism · Chandogya Upanishad

Split the tiny banyan seed and you find nothing inside, yet the whole great tree stands in it. What is invisible at the root is already the entire thing that will rise.
