EGO & BEING
The festivals arrive on schedule, the moons and the feast days kept exactly as prescribed, and the response to them is weariness. My soul hates them, they are a trouble, I am tired of carrying them. The form is intact. The life has drained out of it.

Ego v. Being lens

When the living virtue fades, ritual appears to take its place. The more elaborate the ceremony, the further people have drifted from the thing it was built to hold.
The Baal Shem Tov taught that prayer without the heart turned toward God is like a body without a soul: the words are all there, and nothing is alive in them.
