Isaiah 25:9 · World English Bible

Isaiah 25:9 Meaning It Shall Be Said in That Day

It shall be said in that day, “Behold, this is our God! We have waited for him, and he will save us! This is Yahweh! We have waited for him. We will be glad and rejoice in his salvation!”

What does Isaiah 25:9 mean?

That day is the dawning of inner recognition, the moment consciousness finally perceives its own source and can point to it as present rather than hoped for. The long waiting is the patient endurance of the faculties through the dark stretch, the discipline of holding to an aim not yet felt, and salvation is the lifting of the whole nature into union with the higher principle it awaited.

Esoteric

That day is the dawning of inner recognition, the moment consciousness finally perceives its own source and can point to it as present rather than hoped for. The long waiting is the patient endurance of the faculties through the dark stretch, the discipline of holding to an aim not yet felt, and salvation is the lifting of the whole nature into union with the higher principle it awaited. Twice the waiting is named because the pattern must be doubled, held in the emotional nature and confirmed in the mind, before recognition breaks.

The gladness is the response of a self that has arrived at what it always belonged to. What was distant becomes near, what was believed becomes seen, and the joy is the natural rising of a person who finds the presence he was oriented toward all along standing within his own reach.

That day: the dawn of inner recognition, the state in which consciousness perceives its own source as present rather than awaited

Live Isaiah 25:9 today

  1. Think of something you waited a long time for and already have. Spend one minute with it as if it just arrived, because the having is easy to stop seeing.
  2. Tell one person today about something good in your life without adding a qualifier or a joke at the end. Let it land as plainly as you mean it.
  3. While you are still waiting on the thing that has not come, the news, the answer, the healing, do the next ordinary task carefully anyway. The waiting is not a hallway, it is where you live right now.

What am I still calling distant that has quietly come close?

Zen

You search everywhere for the ox you have been riding the whole time. The end of the search is not an arrival somewhere new, it is seeing what was always under you.

Hinduism · the Upanishads

What you have been looking for is the one doing the looking. The long seeking is not wasted, it is what finally turns the eye around.

Sufism · Rumi

What you seek is also seeking you, and the waiting was never one-sided. The ache itself was the first contact.
