Isaiah 30:8 Meaning Now Go

Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come forever and ever.

What does Isaiah 30:8 mean?

To write a thing before them and fix it in a book is to settle a state so firmly within that it can no longer be argued away. Writing here is inner acceptance made permanent, the desire recorded not on paper but in the feeling of the one who holds it, so that when reason comes later to deny what was seen, the record stands and outlasts the doubt.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

To write a thing before them and fix it in a book is to settle a state so firmly within that it can no longer be argued away. Writing here is inner acceptance made permanent, the desire recorded not on paper but in the feeling of the one who holds it, so that when reason comes later to deny what was seen, the record stands and outlasts the doubt.

The words for the time to come mean a thing accepted now waits, already finished, until its day arrives. A person impresses the wish fulfilled upon himself until it is as fixed as ink, and afterward the changing facts of the moment cannot erase it. What was inwardly written keeps for as long as it takes to appear. The state a person seals in himself becomes the future he later walks into.

Live Isaiah 30:8 today

  1. Write one sentence today about how you want your life to be, in the present tense, as though it already is. Keep it somewhere you will see it tomorrow, a note app, the back of a receipt.
  2. Say that sentence once to someone you trust. Letting another person hear it makes it harder for your own second thoughts to quietly erase it.
  3. When the day contradicts it, bad news, a rough number, somebody's offhand comment, go back and read your line instead of rewriting it. The record is allowed to outlast the afternoon.

If I wrote down what I actually expect, would it match what I say I want?

The same truth in other traditions

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He kept a private notebook, writing the same convictions to himself again and again, not for readers but so the mind would hold them when the day pushed back.

Judaism · Pirkei Avot

What you take in while you are still fresh is like ink written on new paper. What comes late is ink on paper already scraped clean, and it does not hold the same way.

Hinduism · Patanjali's Yoga Sutras

Steady, repeated practice, held over a long time without a break, is what makes a state firm. Repetition is how a passing feeling becomes solid ground.
