Isaiah 49:6 · World English Bible

Isaiah 49:6 Meaning Indeed

Indeed, he says, “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel. I will also give you as a light to the nations, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.”

What does Isaiah 49:6 mean?

When someone believes their work was wasted, a larger assignment heals them faster than any rest. Believing the work amounted to nothing sets a state of futility, and futility shrinks whatever a person attempts next; shrink the attempt and the poor result proves the belief all over again.

When someone believes their work was wasted, a larger assignment heals them faster than any rest.

Believing the work amounted to nothing sets a state of futility, and futility shrinks whatever a person attempts next; shrink the attempt and the poor result proves the belief all over again. God breaks that loop by enlarging the charge instead of granting the rest that would look like mercy.

A spirit measuring its own return is already dying, and what gets handed over here is more people to carry light to, further out, in deeper darkness. Attention spent on nations at the edge of the earth has nothing left over for auditing whether the last decade counted. Anyone who refuses the bigger commission keeps the exhaustion and keeps the small verdict passed on themselves.

Live Isaiah 49:6 today

  1. When the thought lands that the last few years amounted to nothing, do not sit down with it. Pick something bigger than your own ledger and start on it today, even badly.
  2. Ask someone what they are carrying and actually take a piece of it, a ride, a meal, an hour on the phone. Attention spent on someone further out has nothing left over for auditing yourself.
  3. If something larger gets handed to you right when you feel most empty, do not assume the kind answer is rest. Say yes to the bigger thing and let the tiredness find out it was wrong about you.

What verdict about your own work have you been carrying, and what would it take to put it down?

Do the work that is yours and release your grip on the yield. The constant checking of your own returns is what wears a person out.
