PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

When a person runs dry inside, they look outside for what they lack. But the deeper mind has a hidden source that keeps working through the empty stretches, renewing what daily life uses up. The old writers called this source God, sensing rightly that it runs deeper than the everyday self.

A man in midlife who had everything he wanted still felt dead inside, and no success could touch it. What healed him was turning inward and letting that deeper center guide him. He stopped running dry because the spring within kept feeding him, and that spring does not depend on luck, so it never fails.

Live Isaiah 58:11 today

  1. When you feel empty today, catch the first reflex, the phone, the snack, the shopping tab, and stop for one minute before following it. Ask what you are actually thirsty for.
  2. With one person, say the honest thing instead of the impressive thing. Being real with someone refills you in a way performance never does.
  3. On a dry, grinding day at work, take five minutes alone with no screen. You are not recharging to produce more, you are going back to the well.

Where have you been looking outside for something that only fills up from the inside?

The same truth in other traditions

Taoism · Tao Te Ching

The Way is a well that keeps giving and never empties. Draw from it and it is not less.

Hinduism · Upanishads

What you are chasing outside is already the ground of what you are. The spring is inward, not elsewhere.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Dig within. There is a source of good in you, and it will keep flowing if you keep digging.
