Isaiah 60:1 · World English Bible

Isaiah 60:1 Meaning Arise

Arise, shine; for your light has come, and Yahweh’s glory has risen on you.

What does Isaiah 60:1 mean?

The call to arise and shine is the summons to lift consciousness from its long sleep in the lower body up into the awakened soul-state in the right side of the head, the upper room entered only in stillness. When a person practices the single eye rather than only reading about it, an inner electromagnetic radiance is released, the melatonin brightness that the ancients called light, and it fills the one who has risen to meet it.

This is not a lamp lit from outside; the shining comes from within the skull once the soul turns upward and touches its source.

The glory said to rise upon a person is that same source operating in the body, the current of spirit reaching its highest station. What religion pictures as a far-off dawn over a city is the ordinary morning of anyone who quiets the mind and lets the higher consciousness wake.

SUFISM

Sufism

Spoken to a people sitting in the rubble of exile, these words do not ask them to make light but to get up and let it show. The fault such a person must shake off is despair, the slump that assumes the dark is final and stops expecting anything. The cure is simple obedience to the first word: rise, turn the face upward, be willing to reflect.

The shining was never the exile's to make. Like the moon, a heart gives back a brightness that has risen on it from beyond.

Live Isaiah 60:1 today

  1. Wake up ten minutes early and sit in the quiet before any screen. Nothing to get, nothing to produce, just the stillness where something in you comes awake on its own.
  2. Walk into one meeting or one room today genuinely alert instead of half present. People feel the difference immediately, and you will see it come back to you.
  3. In the middle of a heavy afternoon, close your eyes for thirty seconds at your desk and let the noise settle. The clarity you were going to look for in coffee or a feed is closer than that.

What is already awake in me every morning, waiting for me to sit up and meet it?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen · Dogen

He taught that sitting still is not a method for getting enlightened later, it is the awakening itself, already happening. There is nothing to add from outside.

Hinduism · Mundaka Upanishad

The light is described as not coming from sun or moon or fire. All of those shine with the light that was already here, in you.

Sufism · Rumi

He wrote that the morning breeze has secrets to tell you, so do not go back to sleep. The dawn is standing there every day whether or not you get up for it.
