Jeremiah 31:22 Meaning How Long Will You Go Here

How long will you go here and there, you backsliding daughter? For Yahweh has created a new thing in the earth: a woman will encompass a man.

What does Jeremiah 31:22 mean?

The restless daughter who wanders back and forth is the soul that keeps searching outside itself, because it is only half of what it could be. Her wandering is the sign of a person split in two: all outward striving, no inner ground to stand on.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

The restless daughter who wanders back and forth is the soul that keeps searching outside itself, because it is only half of what it could be. Her wandering is the sign of a person split in two: all outward striving, no inner ground to stand on.

The new thing is that the two halves come together. The inward, receiving side surrounds and holds the active, driving side, instead of being ruled by it. The wandering ends because she stops chasing the world for what she lacks. The missing half has been found within her, and she is one whole person.

Live Jeremiah 31:22 today

  1. Spend ten minutes today with your phone in another room and nothing to accomplish. If restlessness shows up, let it be there without fixing it, and see what is underneath the urge to go get something.
  2. In one conversation today, do nothing but receive. No advice, no story of your own, no solving. Just hold what the other person says and let that be the whole of your contribution.
  3. When you feel the pull to check your phone again at a red light or in a line, ask what you are hoping to find there. Then stay in the quiet of the line instead and see if anything is actually missing.

What have you been looking for out there that may already be in you?

The seeker chases the ox across the countryside only to find it was never lost, and was his own all along. The search ends when the searcher and what he sought turn out to be one.
