Job 34:20 · World English Bible
In a moment they die, even at midnight. The people are shaken and pass away. The mighty are taken away without a hand.
Anicca: Impermanence Impermanence is the mark that nothing holds its shape for long. A moment is the whole span allowed here, and midnight makes the point: the hour arrives without consulting anyone's readiness.

BUDDHISM
Anicca: Impermanence Impermanence is the mark that nothing holds its shape for long. A moment is the whole span allowed here, and midnight makes the point: the hour arrives without consulting anyone's readiness. Life goes out like a candle in a draft, nothing in the flame announcing which breath will be its last.
Maraṇassati: Recollection of death Keeping death in plain view is a daily practice. Midnight is the hour nobody plans around, the household asleep and the lamps already out. Turning it over each evening, that this breath may be the last, takes the shock out of the sentence and puts the day's quarrels back in proportion.
Saṃvega: Urgent stirring This is the jolt that mortality delivers to a settled mind. People are shaken, and the shaking can go two ways: it can curdle into dread, or it can move someone to settle what matters while there is still light. It works like a near miss on the highway, when the hands go cold and everything trivial drops away.
Māna: Conceit Conceit is the habit of ranking oneself above, level with, or below others. The mighty are taken away just as the people are, and standing that looked load-bearing turns out to be a coat, easily lifted off. Elihu presses exactly this point: no office buys an exemption, and a prince's last hour looks like anyone's.
Anattā: Not-self Not-self means nothing in a person reliably answers to "mine, under my command." No hand takes the mighty away, and none is needed; the body simply stops obeying, having never been anyone's to order about. Tell this body not to stop, and watch what it does.
Kamma: Action and its fruit Kamma is deed carrying its own result. "Without a hand" is the weight of it: no executioner, no army at the gate, and the reckoning still arrives on time. A deed works like a debt coming due whether or not a collector knocks, which is why Elihu can insist the dark hides no one.
Buddhism lens
If you were not promised tomorrow, what would you say tonight that you keep assuming there is time for?
Alexander the Great and the man who drove his mules came to exactly the same end. Rank changes the funeral and nothing else.
Turn back one day before you die, the sages said, and since no one knows which day that is, the turning belongs to today. The uncertainty is the whole instruction.
Death does not wait for anyone to be finished, and it comes for the young as readily as the old. The one who understands this stops postponing what matters.
