John 1:3 Meaning All Things Were Made Through Him

All things were made through him. Without him, nothing was made that has been made.

What does John 1:3 mean?

Only what love creates is truly made; everything else is merely dreamed and has no author because it has no reality. What the mind extends from love shares love's being and endures, while the world of fear, seeming so solidly built, was never made at all in the sense that lasts.

Only what love creates is truly made; everything else is merely dreamed and has no author because it has no reality. What the mind extends from love shares love's being and endures, while the world of fear, seeming so solidly built, was never made at all in the sense that lasts. To ask who created suffering is to ask a question with no answer, for nothing outside love was ever given being.

So a mind frightened by what it seems to see can remember that fear made nothing real, however convincing its forms. Creation is the work of love alone, and whatever love did not create simply is not there to threaten. Seeing this, the mind stops defending against a world that was never truly made and rests in the only things that were.

Him: the creating power of love, the one source of all that genuinely is, apart from which nothing real has ever come to be.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The "him" here names no man who lived long ago. He is the power of awareness itself, the simple fact that you know you exist before you know anything else. Nothing enters your world that this awareness did not first accept as so. A house, a job, a friendship, an illness: each began as a conviction held inside, and then hardened into the thing you touch.

Work backward from anything a person owns and the trail ends at a moment when he assumed it was his. That assumption was the maker. The world does not build itself and then announce the result. Awareness holds a state, and the state becomes the life a person lives from. Whatever exists was first believed into being by the one who beholds it.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The Word is the creative consciousness within, the ordering intelligence through which every form in a person's world comes into being, and to say all things are made by it is to place the origin of one's whole experience inside that inner power rather than in outer events. Nothing in a person's reality stands apart from the awareness that shapes it; thought is the maker, and every condition of the body and life is its work. The double statement, made by him and nothing made without him, seals the point that no experience arises outside the mind that forms it.

What happens here is the recognition that a person's world issues from a single generating source within. The life one meets is not imposed from elsewhere but framed by the creative consciousness at one's own center, which leaves nothing outside its making.

The Word: the creative consciousness within a person, the ordering intelligence through which every form of one's experience comes into being.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

In the beginning, for each of us, the world is one undivided blur. Then a power in the mind starts cutting it into pieces: light and dark, self and other, inside and outside. This shaping power is what the old writers reached for when they spoke of the Word.

That is why all things are made through it. A stone or a fear does not exist for us until the mind draws a line around it and sets it apart. Remove that power and nothing stands out, only a formless stream. Everything real to us became real by passing through this act of giving form.

SUFISM

A song exists only while it is being sung; let the singer fall silent and there is no song left lying around. Everything that is came to be through one voice, and nothing at all stands apart from it. The heart puffed up over what it thinks it built forgets that it never once supplied the breath.

Humility here is not gloom but relief. A person can set down the strain of being his own foundation and let the same voice that made the mountains carry his small day too. Wherever a real thing exists, the Maker is present in it, holding the note, or the thing would not be there to point back at all.

Live John 1:3 today

  1. Pick the worry that woke you up and ask one honest question: has this actually happened, or have I been building it? Then put your attention on something that is genuinely in front of you.
  2. When someone tells you about a fear of theirs, do not feed it with more detail. Stay warm and stay with what is really there, which is usually just them, needing company.
  3. In traffic or a slow line, catch the story you are spinning about how the day is ruined. The delay is real. The ruin is something you are manufacturing.

How much of what I am defending myself against today has ever actually existed?
