John 1:48 Meaning Nathanael Said to Him
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

John 1:48 · World English Bible
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
The mind is startled to learn it was known before it stepped forward, known in the quiet place it thought was hidden and private. It asks how such seeing is possible, still believing itself a separate self behind a closed door.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The mind is startled to learn it was known before it stepped forward, known in the quiet place it thought was hidden and private. It asks how such seeing is possible, still believing itself a separate self behind a closed door. But love was never held off by that door; it saw the mind in its solitude, before any call, and found it innocent there.
To be seen under the fig tree is to be met in the very place the ego keeps for its secrets, and to find that place holds no shame after all. A mind that discovers it was always already known, and known gently, learns it was never truly alone or truly hidden.
The fig tree: the private inner place where the mind believes it sits unseen, keeping its secrets, yet where love has already met it in innocence.
Christian Psychology lens
What part of your life have you been keeping private because you assumed it would not survive being seen?
The great way sees into the hidden as easily as into the open. Thinking some corner of your life is off the map is itself the illusion.
The one who loves you has known your secret longer than you have, and came anyway. The door you were holding shut was never locked from the other side.
Nothing stands alone and apart. What feels like a private, sealed-off room is already part of the whole thing, held and connected, whether you noticed or not.
