Judas is not the traitor he seems. He is the revealer, the one who hands over the secret so it can be made known, the inner act that delivers the hidden power of imagination into visible use. The dipped sop singles out and entrusts this office. The betrayal that follows is the necessary release by which what is held within is given up to become fact.
His name means praise, and his work is the dying of an old idea of the self so a new one can live. A person surrenders his former conception, hands it over as Judas is handed the sop, and by that giving-up the thing he assumed passes out of him into the world. The one who seems to betray is the one who makes the awakening happen; nothing is realized until the old self is delivered up.
