John 13:27 Meaning After the Piece of Bread

After the piece of bread, then Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”

What does John 13:27 mean?

The morsel is taken and in that moment the mind hands itself wholly to the teacher of fear, so that betrayal is no longer resisted but chosen. What entered was not a power from outside but the belief in separation given full welcome, the ego seizing a mind that has stopped defending its own innocence.

The morsel is taken and in that moment the mind hands itself wholly to the teacher of fear, so that betrayal is no longer resisted but chosen. What entered was not a power from outside but the belief in separation given full welcome, the ego seizing a mind that has stopped defending its own innocence.

The awakened teacher does not plead or restrain. It releases the choice to run its course, because a mind that has decided for fear must see where fear leads before it can want release. There is no anger in letting the darkness finish; there is only the quiet knowledge that even this will end, and the mind will be waiting to choose again.

Sop: the offered morsel, the small acceptance through which a mind takes in what it has decided to believe Satan: the ego given full entry, the belief in separation ruling a mind that has ceased to defend its innocence

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Judas is not the traitor the surface tells of but the revealer, the one who hands the hidden self over so it can be made known. His name carries the sense of praise, and what enters him is the impulse that finally moves a person to act on his desire. What looks like betrayal is the necessary step that delivers the wished-for state into experience. Every fulfillment needs the one who sets it going.

Do quickly names the readiness of imagination to commit fully to the new state without lingering. Delay belongs to doubt. An assumption meant to become fact accepts itself at once. Dying to the old concept of self is not slow reluctance but a swift, whole handing-over. The moment a person releases what he was and gives himself to what he wishes to be, the work is already under way.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The morsel handed over is a conciliatory favor, a bribe given to a trusted man to move him to act, and only after it is taken does the adversary enter. The order matters: the divisive pull of the flesh does not seize the man until the favor draws him, and then the lower force fills the space the favor opened. What looks like treachery is a role set in motion on purpose, the ego pressed to complete its own undoing so the higher work can go forward.

So the word to go quickly is not anger but timing. Once the adversary has entered, the self-destroying act should finish fast, because only when the ego spends itself completely can the soul rise past it.

Sop: the morsel given as a conciliatory bribe, a favor placed with a trusted one to win him over and set the act in motion Satan: the adversary within, the divisive pull of the flesh that fills a person once the lower favor has opened the way

Live John 13:27 today

  1. When a bitter thought shows up today, watch the small moment where you decide to agree with it. That tiny yes is where the whole mood gets in, and you can simply not give it.
  2. If someone you care about is set on a choice you think will hurt them, say your piece once, kindly, and then stop pushing. Staying in the room without arguing is often the only real help available.
  3. When a group chat or email thread turns ugly, resist the urge to grab control of it. You can let it play out, keep your own replies clean, and still be there when it burns down.

What thought did I say yes to today without really meaning to?

Stoicism · Epictetus

No one can hand you a bad character, you take it up by assent. The harm begins the moment you agree with the thought.

Buddhism · Dhammapada

The mind invites its own ruin. No enemy does to a person what a person does to themselves by welcoming a thought and feeding it.

Tao Te Ching

You do not stop a flood by standing in front of it. Some things must run their course before the water finds its level again.
