John 13:7 Meaning Jesus Answered Him

Jesus answered him, “You don’t know what I am doing now, but you will understand later.”

What does John 13:7 mean?

Understanding does not always come at the moment love acts, for the mind still ruled by fear cannot yet read the meaning of what love is doing. Love serves first and explains later, because the lesson lives in the experience and not in the mind's advance approval.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Understanding does not always come at the moment love acts, for the mind still ruled by fear cannot yet read the meaning of what love is doing. Love serves first and explains later, because the lesson lives in the experience and not in the mind's advance approval. To be told that knowing comes hereafter is a mercy, releasing the mind from the demand to comprehend before it can accept, and letting it receive a gift whose purpose it will grasp only once forgiveness has opened its sight.

So the mind is not asked to understand in order to be helped. It is asked only to allow, and the meaning follows the allowing. What looks unclear while fear interprets becomes plain the instant love does, and then the mind sees that what it could not understand was its own release being quietly prepared.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

So much of your suffering comes from the mind's demand to understand everything at once. Something happens that you cannot make sense of, and you turn it over and over, insisting on a meaning before you are willing to be at peace. The insisting is its own torment. Life does not hand you its meaning on your schedule, and the grasping for it only pulls you further out of the one place where you could actually be well, which is here.

There is a deep relief in allowing that you do not know now. Not resigning in defeat, but softening into the present as it is, trusting that clarity comes in its own time and cannot be forced. Often what could not be understood while you were inside it becomes quietly clear once you have stopped clutching at it. To know hereafter is less a promise about the future than an invitation to release your grip on the moment and let it be what it is, unexplained and complete.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The washing of the feet works on a man before his mind can follow it. The awakened center within, the Christ, moves in the lower body and cleanses the ground a person stands on, and the reasoning surface cannot yet read what the deeper self is doing. Understanding arrives after the change, never before it, because the flesh is worked on first and the knowing catches up. The feet are where consciousness touches the earth of the body, and their cleansing is the quiet ordering of a person's daily walk. What feels like confusion in the moment is only the interval between an inner act and the mind's slow recognition of it, and the meaning surfaces once the work has settled.

So the not-knowing is not a lack. It is the natural order in which a person is remade: the depth acts, the surface understands later.

The feet: the point where consciousness meets the ground of the body, the daily walk that gets washed clean before the mind understands why.

  1. When you catch yourself refreshing for an answer that is not coming yet, close the app and do the next small thing in front of you. Not knowing is not the same as nothing happening.
  2. If someone close to you is going through something you cannot make sense of, sit with them without offering your theory of what it all means. Just stay for the length of the conversation.
  3. In a meeting or a hard email thread where the plan is still unclear, say "I don't know yet" instead of inventing certainty. Then keep doing your part anyway.

Where am I refusing to move until someone explains it to me first?

The student wants the answer first. The teacher hands over a broom. Understanding arrives in the sweeping, not before it.

Muddy water clears when it is left alone. The one who waits without stirring sees clearly, and the one who demands to see now only clouds it further.
