The mind that believes it was cast out of Heaven imagines it must earn its way back to a lodging it fears has been withdrawn. Yet the truth in which it was created was never diminished; there is room in it for every mind, and not one has been left without a place. Nothing has been lost, and no one has been shut out.

The prepared place is not somewhere the mind will one day travel. It is the recognition, already accomplished, that the mind was always at home and only dreamed of exile. What awakens ahead of the mind is simply its own certainty that the way back was never closed.

The father's house is your own consciousness, and the many mansions are the countless states of being available inside it. Wealth is a room. So is poverty, so is health, so is the love you long for. Each is a settled feeling that a person can enter, and all of them stand ready at once, waiting to be occupied.

To prepare a place is simply to occupy the state before its outer signs arrive. A person goes ahead into the feeling of the wish fulfilled, lives in that room in imagination, and by dwelling there he readies the conditions to receive him. The self that enters a state first opens the door for the body and the world to follow. No one builds the mansion; it already exists among the many. Moving into it, and staying, is the whole of the preparing.

The dwelling is your own body, and within it stand many rooms, each a state of consciousness a person can enter and occupy. Nothing outside must be reached, no distant sky earned after death; the higher self moves ahead into the finer chambers of mind that the ordinary self has not yet lived in and readies them. Growth here is simply the awareness climbing from the lower rooms of appetite and fear into the still upper ones, all under one roof of flesh.

What waits for you was never a location. It is a wider level of your own knowing, already built inside you and only now made ready to be entered.
