John 14:4 Meaning You Know Where I Go

You know where I go, and you know the way.

What does John 14:4 mean?

The assurance given to the lower faculties is that the destination of the higher self and the road to it are already known within, not lodged in some far-off teaching but written in the person's own depths. Where the awakening consciousness goes is back to its source at the center, and the way is the inward path of ascent that every faculty already carries the knowledge of, however forgotten.

The speaking is the higher nature telling the powers of the self that they possess the route home even when they protest they do not. What reads as a quiet word to companions before a parting is the reminder that the goal and the passage to it are native to a person, the way already laid in the being, waiting only to be recognized as something known rather than sought from outside.

  1. Today when you catch yourself googling your way to an answer you already sense, pause first and ask yourself what you actually think. Give your own knowing one honest minute before you outsource it.
  2. When someone you care about says they have no idea what to do, resist handing them the plan. Ask what they would do if they trusted themselves, and give them room to hear their own answer out loud.
  3. In a meeting or a hard conversation where you feel lost, drop the scramble for the right line. Slow your breath, feel your feet on the floor, and say the simple true thing you already know.

Where in your life have you been asking for directions to a place you already know how to reach?

Tao Te Ching

The Tao says what you are seeking is not far off, and the one who looks outward cannot see. The way is under your feet already, so walking it is remembering, not finding.

Zen

A student asks for the path and the master answers that it is right where he is standing. Searching for it is what makes it seem distant.
