John 16:16 Meaning A Little While

A little while, and you will not see me. Again a little while, and you will see me.

What does John 16:16 mean?

There is a season when love seems to withdraw from sight, and the mind, still trusting only what the eyes report, believes it has been left. Yet the vanishing is only the fading of a form, not the loss of what the form pointed to, and the mind that grieves is mistaking absence of appearance for absence of love.

Christian Psychology

There is a season when love seems to withdraw from sight, and the mind, still trusting only what the eyes report, believes it has been left. Yet the vanishing is only the fading of a form, not the loss of what the form pointed to, and the mind that grieves is mistaking absence of appearance for absence of love.

Then sight returns, but changed, for love is now recognized where it truly lives, in the mind rather than before the eyes. The little while is the brief span in which perception shifts from the seen to the real, and what looked like disappearance turns out to have been love moving to the place where it can never again be hidden.

The seeing changes register. First the loss of the visible, then recognition of what was never visible to begin with.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The creative power passes out of sight and then returns, and both movements are the same life going home. For a little while the assumed state is invisible, felt within but not yet shown, and this is the interval every wish crosses before it appears. What seems to vanish is only travelling toward its source.

Going to the Father is imagination returning to the awareness of being from which it came, and out of that return the state rises again where you can see it. The two little whiles are the descent of feeling into the unseen and its coming back as fact. Nothing is lost in the gap; the power withdraws only to arrive. A person loses sight of what he has assumed for a moment, and then meets it again, because the life that carried it in is the life that brings it back.

  1. When a photo of someone you miss comes up on your phone, stay with it instead of swiping past. What you loved in them is still in you, and that is not a consolation prize.
  2. In a friendship that has gone quiet, let the gap be a gap rather than a verdict. Send the message if you want to, but don't let the silence rewrite the history.
  3. When something you counted on falls through at work, give yourself the day to feel it, then look for what is still standing. Usually more than you expected.

What are you calling gone that might only be out of sight?

First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is a mountain again. The same world returns, but the eyes that see it are not the same.

The wound is the place where the light enters you. What looked like a disappearance was an opening being made.

The one who sees clearly grieves neither for the living nor for the dead, because what is real was never born and cannot pass away.
