John 16:27 Meaning For the Father Himself Loves You

for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.

What does John 16:27 mean?

Love is never earned by pleading, as though a distant power had to be persuaded to soften. A mind that has begun to trust the loving teacher within has already turned toward Love, and in that turning it discovers what was always so: it is held, and was held before it asked.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Love is never earned by pleading, as though a distant power had to be persuaded to soften. A mind that has begun to trust the loving teacher within has already turned toward Love, and in that turning it discovers what was always so: it is held, and was held before it asked.

A frightened mind imagines it must win affection from outside itself. But the Father's love is not a reward for good behavior; it is the mind's own source, recognized at last. Loving what is loving in itself, it remembers it was never apart from the One it feared it had to reach.

Live John 16:27 today

  1. Alone, when you catch yourself running through the mental list of what you did wrong today, pause and let the list sit unfinished. You are not on trial, and nothing on that list is holding back something that was never withheld.
  2. With one person today, drop the small bid for approval before you speak. Say the thing plainly, without the softener or the joke that asks them to like you first.
  3. Under pressure, in traffic or a meeting where you feel small, breathe once and remember that your worth is not being decided in this room. Then answer from that, not from the scramble.

Where in your day are you still asking for something you already have?

The way does not have to be summoned. It is already the ground you stand on, and the moment you stop straining toward it you find you never left it.

Sufism · Rumi

What you are searching for has been searching for you the whole time. The longing you feel is not distance from love, it is love already moving in you.

Zen

A student asks how to find the truth. The teacher says: you are riding an ox while looking for an ox.
